In the letter of 4 January 1877 Leighton encloses a copy of the booklet: Proceedings of the Shakspeare Club of Wheeling [West Virginia] : with the address delivered Friday evening, April 23rd, 1875, by William Leighton, Jr., president of the club (Wheeling: Lewis Baker & Co., 1875).
