Biography/History:
Gertrud ("Trude") Zuckerkandl-Stekel (née Stekel) was married to Fritz Zuckerkandl, the son of Emil Zuckerkandl (1849-1910) and Bertha Zuckerkandl (1864-1945); Bertha Zuckerkandl was a close friend of Alma Mahler. Trude was the sister of the composer and conductor Erich Stekel (1898-1978), who, after his emigration to France, was known professionally as Eric Paul Stekel. Trude and Erich were both originally from Vienna. During World War II, Trude and Fritz, as well as their son Emil, and Fritz's mother Bertha, all lived in Algeria. During that time (according to the correspondence of her mother-in-law Bertha Zuckerkandl) Trude worked professionally as a portraitist. She writes from Grenoble, France, where she was visiting her brother Erich.
