Kalīlah wa-Dimnah is a translation into Arabic by Ibn al-Muqaffa (from a Pahlavi intermediate text) of the Pañca-tantra, or Panchatantra, known in Europe as the Fables of Bidpai. The original Sanskrit version is lost, and survives only in the Arabic Kalilah wa-Dimnah from which other versions were derived.
