An abstract of the returns made to the Board of Trade, of wrecks, casualties, and collisions which occurred on and near the coasts of the United Kingdom, from the 1st January to the 31st December 1866, with a statement of the number of lives lost and saved; of the amounts granted out of the Mercantile Marine Fund as rewards for the salvage of life, for contributions towards the maintenance of life boats, and for expenses in connexion with the mortar and rocket apparatus for saving life, during the same period; a preacute;cis of the special inquiries instituted, by order of the Board of Trade, into the causes of wrecks, casualties, and collisions on the coasts of the United Kingdom; and a preacute;cis of inquiries abroad instituted by consular and colonial officers and others into the causes of wrecks, casualties, and collisions to British ships, reported to the Board of Trade during the year 1866.
