Epitaphs. Epigrams. Poems. Manuscripts, English -- 19th century.
Following the ink bordered title page is a note to the reader explaining "the collection will challenge any of the kind ever published, either for entertainment or merit." The volume is divided into three distinct sections with separate title pages: "A choice collection of epitaphs consisting of above two hundred," "A choice collection of epigrams consisting of above three hundred," and "A collection of poems upon various occasions and of considerable merit." Each page is dated 1816. The works compiled in this volume are from a variety of sources and authors ranging from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century. Some of the selections have attributions including Alexander Pope, Jonathan Swift, and Ben Jonson. Catchwords are on the bottom right of each page. The volume is written in the same hand in ink. However, the title page attribution which reads "by Thos. Moir" appears to be from a different hand in darker ink.
