Summary:
Attorney and academic administrator Roslyn Artis was born on June 16, 1970 in Springfield, Massachusetts. She received her B.A. degree in political science from West Virginia State College Institute in 1992; her J. D. from West Virginia University College of Law in 1995; and her Ed.D. from Vanderbilt University in 2010. She began her legal career at Brown and Levicoff, PLC, then moved to The Wooten Law Firm in 1997. But after six years teaching as an adjunct professor at Mountain State University (MSU), Artis began her path to academic management as director of the legal studies program in 2003; in 2006, she was promoted to chief advancement officer and president of the MSU Foundation; in 2012, she was named provost and executive vice president of MSU then chief academic officer of the university; and in 2014, Artis became the first woman president of Florida Memorial University in that school's 135-year history.
