a| Leaf of Alcuin's De fide Sanctae Trinitatis et de incarnatione Christi, an instruction manual for the Christian catechism of pagan Saxons, folded and glued into an envelope, written in the 9th century in France. The original dimensions of the page were approximately 232 x 204 mm, with a written area of approximately 190 x 139 mm. The outside of the envelope is formed by the recto of the leaf: recto side begins with the heading and prologue to Book 2 and contains the heading to Book 2, Chapter 1. Inside of the envelope is formed by the verso of the leaf: verso side contains the text of Chapter 1 and the heading to Chapter 2. Text is legible on both outside and inside of envelope, but some areas are obscured due to folding into envelope shape. Text is written in 23 long lines and ruled in drypoint. Chapter headings and 3-line initial letters after headings on the recto are in uncial script and in red ink; chapter heading on the verso is in rustic capitals in black ink. Text is in Caroline minuscule, with the first line of the chapter in rustic capitals.
