Running title: Young carpenter's assistant
An updated edition of Owen Biddle's work, first issued in Philadelphia in 1805 with the title: The young carpenter's assistant, or, A system of architecture, adapted to the style of building in the United States. Haviland's reissue of Biddle's work included a new introduction and an additional 20 plates "particularly adapted for country use." Hitchcock notes that Biddle's intention was to define his title as suitable for work in the United States, where, by this time, existed a building style clearly distinct from that of England.
This edition has new preface and plates 15-20, 25-28, 31, 32, 53-60 by Haviland.
Plates engraved by Cornelius Tiebout, William Hooker, Joseph Yeager, and William Kneass after Owen Biddle and John Haviland.
