- Describes the trials of Majorcan Conversos (Chuetas), accused of Judaizing at the end of the 17th century, based on Inquisitorial records. In 1679 the Inquisition "reconciled" to the Church 250 Judaizers who had lost their property. One of them, Raphael Cortés de Alfonso, turned informer in 1685. His evidence on their continued Judaizing led to the destruction of the community of Judaizers. Gives an account, based on a pamphlet by eyewitness Francisco Garau (see above, no. 267), of the 1691 autos-da-fe when 37 Judaizers were burned and others severely punished. Emphasizes that the charges were true and not motivated by Church greed for Jewish property, as claimed by the Catholic descendants of the Chuetas. (From the Bibliography of the Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism).
