Begun by Dr. Isaac Hays, the Medical News became one of the leading medical journals of its day. It published miscellaneous medical news, including foreign news, reports of clinical lectures, accounts of cases and operations in the various medical schools and hospitals, articles exposing quackery, ads for new medical books; and many illustrations. A section titled "The Library" contained a series of lectures on the principal branches of medical science. Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900.
