- Manuscripts, English -- 20th century.
- Founded in 1853 by Uriah Maggs (1828-1913), Maggs Bros. Ltd. is one of the leading bookselling firms in the English-speaking world. The catalogs in this collection were almost all received directly by the Penn Libraries from Maggs when issued and some bear the annotations of contemporary librarians. Maggs has been historically known for its strength in rarities of English literature and history and a number of the catalogs in this collection contain items that are unique and unrecorded elsewhere.
- This finding aid serves as a guide to the more than 400 Maggs catalogs in the Penn Libraries' collections. The collection is particularly comprehensive from the 1940s to the 2000s. In addition to the regular series of numbered catalogs, this collection contains several dozen Maggs bulletins, flyers, and special catalogs that were issued outside of that sequence. The vast majority of the catalogs listed in this collection are housed in Print Coll. 59 and have box numbers. However, a few catalogs listed here are housed elsewhere by the Penn Libraries and can be identified by their respective shelfmarks.
