a| The KS2 video resource can be used as a starting point for opinion-writing - what think about things you feel are unfair. It begins with children talking about their own experiences at home and school, but progresses to more serious issues. All the children's comments are authentic and what they actually wanted to express opinions about. At a drama workshop other children role-play scenarios along similar themes. The collection of children's comments is organized under three loose headings: Family Stuff, School Stuff and Serious Stuff. Family Stuff includes siblings having preferential treatment, and getting the blame for things you haven't done. The children talk about tests and favouritism at school, and then begin to consider the inequality of wealth, cruelty to animals and our response to world disasters such as the earthquake in Haiti. Teachers could decide to unpick the degrees of unfairness between the personal anecdotes and world events.
