Professor Bob Williamson, half Scottish, half American, is opinionated, ambitious and dynamic. He heads one of the leading units in Britain exploring the technique of gene therapy, destined to be the next revolution in medicine - with applications in hereditary diseases, cancer, AIDS and, possibly, Alzheimers. The film follows Williamson's pioneering work and visits his rivals in the US and colleagues in Hungary.
